All of our guests will be required to fill out a form in order to be evaluated for physical fitness and/or endurance for hiking, since the hikes have varying degrees of challenges. Waterproof boots are a must. A variety of hiking trips are available, depending on length of stay.

First Day:
Activities recommended for guests arriving around noon time are: a ½ hour walk to Puente Chávez to see the vegetation, creeks, the Ulcumayo River, birds, ancient rock formations, the canyon’s deep well, three waterfalls and a clear-water pool, where guests can take a dip. A wonderful show awaits us on the way back to the cabins: the ritual dances of The Little Roosters of the Rock, native birds of the Peruvian jungle (Ripicula Peruviana). Bring your binoculars.

Second Day:
Hour of departure, according to the groups’ needs, between 9-10 a.m. After a 5-minute walk, we will arrive to the “Azul Yacu,” (Blue Water), a 30 m. high waterfall. The name is due to the bluish color of the rock walls reflecting on the water; such beauty should be captured with your camera.

A magic spectacle soon follows giving us a taste of nature untouched: the “Huilca Yacu,” (Sacred Waterfall) cascades from a 40 m. height. This gift of nature resembles the dome of a huge cathedral through which water rushes – an unusual light coming from the top of the rocky mountain adds to the view. This waterfall is located one-half hour away from the cabins; waterproof jackets are recommended.
Conclusion of this daytime tour depends on the time of day and guests’ physical abilities. After a snack, guests can have a late lunch, at about 4 p.m., at the Lodge. The alternative is to return to the Lodge, earlier, have lunch, and continue the tour, returning at approximately 5:30 p.m. A perfect end to the day would be to enjoy the beauty of “Anden Yacu” ( its Quechuan name); this 40 m. waterfall has seven platforms/terraces that may be climbed by adventurous guests. A dip in the pool will renew the spirit, recharging you with positive energy.

River Beach
Those preferring not to take the afternoon walk can enjoy the private beach and a dip in the river.

Third Day:
Communal Reserve of Pampa Hermosa. Departure: 9 a.m.
Having strengthened our legs during the first two days, we are now ready for a visit to this enchanted forest, a 1- 1/2 hour hike for the expert and 2- ½ hour for the untrained. We will climb up 400 m. through rugged terrain, arriving at a Pampa donned with over 11,000 hectares of virgin forest. We will cover an approximate area of 4 hectares with the help of qualified guides. During the climb, we will run into one of the matapalos (ficus ssp.), a 30 m. high, 4 m. wide tree, it is a giant, parasite tree, native of the jungle.
Later on, we will be experiencing the rich treasure of virgin flora described above, under “Flora and Fauna,” last paragraph.

Pre-Inca Ruins
The ruins are located at the top of a steep cliff surrounding the Pampa and have the shape of square holes with elaborate stone borders. As far as is known, no excavation for archaeological purposes have been done in this area. Ninabamba can be reached after a 4- hour hike, where “Ciudad Perdida,” (Lost City) can be visited. The site has the remains of 40 pre-Inca stone dwellings.

Fourth Day:
Free day for optional trips; there are many other sites full of nature’s beauty to be enjoyed. Itineraries can be made with our guests’ participation, according to their physical abilities and interests. Photographs of such sites can be seen at the Lodge.

Evening Activities:
Bar, bonfires, table games, watching the nocturnal butterflies and enjoying the starry nights. Bring a flashlight.
