...Blessed
with lush vegetation, the area is home to a variety of colorful birds,
mammals, rodents, etc. It is surrounded by canyons, fresh water springs
and clear creeks. Scenic views include the Ulcumayo River and over ten
beautiful waterfalls that rush down between huge trees (it is possible
to take a dip at the bottom of some of the waterfalls).
These are only
some of the many unique attractions that await nature lovers. A 20-minute
hike will take you to the ancient, stone formations of the Puente Chávez
and to the “Danzadero del Gallito de las Rocas” (The Dancing
Site of the Little Rooster of the Rocks) – it is actually a bird
with a red crest resembling a rooster’s. Hikers in good shape
can take a 1½ hour hike to visit the Pampa Hermosa Reserve; those
who choose a more leisurely pace, can expect a 2 ½ hour walk.
Ninabamba, a highland village at 2,000 m. above sea level, is located
in a prairie bordered by the Andes and the lush vegetation of the “Ceja
de Selva” (Jungle high slopes). It can be reached after a 4-5
hour hike, depending on the guest’s physical prowess.
